The Tuition Refund Plan...was originated by A.W.G. Dewar in 1930 to protect the financial investments of students and parents in education. Today, more than 1,200 leading independent schools and colleges throughout North America offer the Plan. Because the cost of education today is a substantial investment, in fact, one which is likely to be your second largest next to a home purchase, the protection afforded by the Tuition Refund Plan is essential. While most colleges provide partial refunds for student withdrawals, they are limited and usually effective when a student withdraws early in the term. The Tuition Refund Plan dramatically enhances the college refund schedule and provides more generous refunds throughout the entire term. Subject to the program terms and conditions, the Tuition Refund Plan offers a refund of term tuition when you are forced to withdraw for medical reasons. Q. What Is Covered?A. The Tuition Refund Plan covers the following:
In both cases a "complete withdrawal" from the college is required. This means the student has given written notice that due to an injury or sickness he/she will not be able to complete the term and will not receive any academic credit. A written statement from a doctor certifying the injury or sickness and college verification is required. All mental health withdrawals will be classified in accordance with the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual DSM-V. Q. How much does it cost?A. The annual cost for an undergraduate student is $648.00 for the 2024/25 academic year, which will be billed each semester in $324.00 increments. Q. What are the conditions of coverage?A. Your protection covers a full term from the opening to closing date. Coverage must be secured before the first day of class. This coverage refunds on a term basis only. Requests to participate in coverage will not be accepted after you start classes. Coverage ceases on the last day of formal academic instruction by the College or University due to any reason. Rooms, meals or other charges that are not paid to the College cannot be insured. Q. What Is Excluded?A. Note that the Plan does not cover the following: war or any act of war, declared or undeclared; taking part in a riot; failure to attend classes for any reason other than injury or sickness; withdrawal when the student receives credit for an incomplete term; nuclear reaction, nuclear radiation or radioactive contamination. NOTE: Coverage does not refund insured tuition or any other charges because of a change to online instruction or alternative learning platform. Q. Are Student Loans covered by this Plan?A. Yes, the Plan provides an important benefit that covers not only payments made directly by the family, but also loans for the semester with the college, banks and government agencies, up to the coverage amount. Q. How are claims filed?A. Claim forms with full instructions are available at the college or by contacting A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. The two forms required to be completed are Student Information Release and Student Medical Release. Claims should be reported within 30 days from occurrence or as soon as is reasonably possible. Students are responsible for the completion of the claim form. Benefit payment is made to the college to be credited to the student's account. Benefits not required to settle your account with the college will be refunded to the insured by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. Questions? Please contact A.W.G. Dewar Inc., Quincy, Massachusetts.
